Palestina and the Right to Health

Bombardementen en militaire aanvallen vernietigen tienduizenden levens in Gaza. Maar ook het tekort aan medisch materiaal, hongersnood en ziektes riskeren vele doden te maken onder de Palestijnen in Gaza. Hoewel het internationaal recht voorschrijft dat ziekenhuizen geen militair doelwit zijn, valt het Israëlische leger structureel gezondheidsinstellingen aan en wordt medisch personeel opgesloten genomen zonder aanleiding. Op deze avond gaan we in gesprek over wat het recht op gezondheid betekent voor Palestijnen.

We hebben het niet alleen over de situatie van de gezondheidszorg en de werkomstandigheden van het medisch personeel in Gaza op dit moment, maar ook over de toestand van de gezondheidszorg voor 7 oktober in Gaza, de Westbank en voor de vele Palestijnse vluchtelingen. Wat is de invloed van de bezetting, onderdrukking en apartheid op het gezondheissysteem in Palestina? En wat kunnen wij doen om het recht op gezondheid voor de Palestijnse bevolking te steunen?

De gesprekken zijn toegankelijk voor iedereen, voorkennis is niet vereist. Bevestig je aanwezigheid via onderstaand formulier.

Het gesprek zal in het Engels zijn. Er zal een bar zijn en wij voorzien een klein hapje. Er zal ook karton en verf zijn om je eigen slogan voor Palestina te schilderen.

▶︎ 𝗙𝗮𝘄𝘇𝗶 𝗪𝗮𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗶 – 𝗔𝗪𝗗𝗔 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 :
Fawzi lives in Gaza city and is a member of the General Assembly of AWDA, partner organization of Viva Salud in Palestine. Fawzi is also a civil society activist. He came to Belgium to visit his kids and has been stuck since the 7th of October. AWDA runs six medical centers and two hospital in Gaza. Alongside healthcare, AWDA also runs community programmes. Despite the bommings and military attacks, the staff of AWDA keeps doing everything in their power to provide health care in Gaza.

▶︎ 𝗛𝗲𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗿𝘂𝘆𝘀𝘀𝗲 – 𝗕𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗻 International 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 :
Heide Vercruysse lived in Palestine for 6 months where she worked at Bisan Center for Research and Development, a Palestinian research organisation. Bisan is one of Viva Salud’s Palestinian partners and implements programmes in the West Bank on, among other things, accessible healthcare. Today, Heide works for Bisan sister’s organization, Bisan International Center, and represents their voice and that of the broader Palestinian civil society in Brussels.

▶︎ 𝗙𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮 𝗕𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗸𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻 – 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁, 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 (𝗕𝗗𝗦) 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 :
She is the Europe coordinator for the BDS national Committee. The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement is the Palestinian-led anti-racist and non violent movement for freedom, justice and equality. Inspired by decade of popular resistance in Palestine, the South African anti-apartheid movement or the US Civic Righst movement, the BDS call urges actions to pressure Israel until comply with international law.
