CAMPAIGN FREE AHMED MUHANNA

Order our free posters to put pressure on our Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib, who is ignoring her responsibility to take action against the genocide in Gaza and the the war crimes perpetrated on the health system.

Dr. Ahmed Muhanna is director of the AWDA hospital in Jabalia (northern Gaza), an organisation with which Viva Salud has worked for almost 20 years. Dr. Muhanna was abducted by Israeli soldiers on the 17th of December 2023 while working at the hospital. Since 7 October, Dr. Muhanna has been very vocal on the human rights violations happening in Gaza, especially on the attacks on the health care system, providing us with numerous updates and testimonies on what is happening on the ground.

For a long time, there was news of him. We believe he is now locked up in Naqab prison, deep in the desert. For the time being, his family still has no information about his physical or mental state.

Dr. Adna Al Burh was performing orthopaedic surgery at the Al Awda hospital on the 17th of December. He was also arrested by Israeli soldiers. Much to our regret, Dr. Al Bursh was tortured and murdered in an Israeli prison.

Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, director of the Al Shifa Hospital, was recently released by the Israeli army after 7 months. He testified that he and other healthcare workers were subjected to torture and psychological humiliation.

We are therefore very concerned about the current state of health of Dr Muhanna and the seven other kidnapped staff, patients and visitors whose whereabouts remain unknown.

Since 7 October, at least 214 health professionals have been arrested by Israeli forces while on duty, and at least 128 health workers were still being held on 30 May 2024.

Our government is doing nothing for the release of  Dr. Muhanna, nor to stop the health system in Gaza from collapsing and the genocide to stop. Attacks on healthcare workers and health infrastructures are war crimes condemned by the Geneva Conventions, which are ratified by Belgium.

It is the responsibility of our government and especially of Minister Hadja Lahbib to act, to oppose and to sanction the systematic violations of human rights committed by Israel.

We call urgently for:

Stand in solidarity with care workers in Palestine and order our posters, join our actions (which we communicate via Facebook and Instagram) and make noise on sociale networks by tagging our Minister Hadja Lahbib (@hadjalahbib).
